## What the resume checker looks at

The things applicant tracking systems and recruiters both look for, in four areas, plus the job match.

* ### Can software read it

  * How much of your resume text can be read
  * Length and number of pages (one is the US norm)
  * Dates for every job, and gaps
* ### Contact details

  * A professional email address
  * A phone number recruiters can call
  * City and state, and a job title
* ### The sections recruiters expect

  * A short professional summary
  * Work experience and education
  * Skills
* ### How it is written

  * Results, not only duties
  * Spelling, grammar and repetition
  * Strong verbs instead of vague phrases

## How applicant tracking systems read a resume

An applicant tracking system turns your resume into fields: name, contact details, each job with its dates, education and skills. Recruiters then search and filter those fields, often by the skills and certifications the job posting names. A resume the system cannot parse, or one that never uses the posting's words, can sit unread.

The usual reasons are simple: text inside images or text boxes, tables used for layout, contact details in the page header, jobs without dates, and bullet points that list duties instead of what you got done. The resume checker finds these in seconds and explains each one.

Then fix it: one tap rebuilds your resume in a clean, one-page template on US Letter with standard headings, and the [AI CV Agent](https://www.cvchapchap.com/ai-agent) can aim every line at a posting you paste, using only what you tell it.

## Resume checker questions

* An ATS resume checker reads your resume the way an applicant tracking system does and tells you what that software can and cannot find. CV Chap Chap's checker scores your resume out of 100 and explains every issue in plain words.
* Yes. Uploading your resume, getting your score, the job-posting match and every explanation are free, with no account. Rebuilding your resume in a template and previewing it are free too; you only pay once if you download the finished resume.
* Paste the job posting under the upload box. We read the skills, tools, certifications and licenses it asks for, then list which ones your resume already names and which it misses, as 'Matches the job: 7 of 11 keywords'. The match sits beside your score and never changes it.
* Large US employers commonly use Workday, Greenhouse, iCIMS, Taleo (Oracle), Lever and SuccessFactors (SAP). They all read real text in order, so a resume with standard headings, dates beside each job and no text inside images is read correctly by each of them.
* 80 or above means your resume is in good shape for most applications. Between 60 and 79 there are real issues worth fixing. Below 60, software may struggle to read it, so fix the issues before you apply.
* No. Add a missing keyword only where it is true for you, in the words of the posting, in your summary, skills or a bullet point. A keyword with nothing behind it does not survive the interview.
* Applicant tracking systems read two pages as easily as one, but US recruiters expect one page unless you have more than about seven years of experience, so the checker flags a resume that runs long.
* No. The file is read once, its text and any posting you paste are sent to our AI provider to run the checks, and we do not save the file or the text. The details we read stay on your phone so you can carry on into the builder.
