Job Summary
The Branch Manageris responsible for driving exceptional retail banking performance through effective business, leadership, team development, customer experience management, and operational excellence.
The role involves implementing business strategies, achieving branch growth targets, maintaining compliance standards, developing high-performing teams, and ensuring excellent customer service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
1. Driving Business Performance (40%)
Implement business strategies to achieve branch performance and growth targets.
Drive branch performance across key areas including: Balance sheet growth Sales growth Income contribution Cost management Credit management Customer experience Employee satisfaction Operational risk and controls

Establish relationships with key clients, businesses, and local influencers.
Conduct customer visits and maintain call reports.
Monitor daily sales performance and ensure achievement of portfolio growth targets.
Understand local market trends and identify business opportunities.
Recommend improvements to products, services, processes, and branch operations.
Identify opportunities for branch expansion, relocation, or closure based on business needs.
2. People Management and Development (30%)
Develop and communicate annual branch resource and operational plans.
Build and maintain a high-performing branch team.
Implement performance management and coaching programs.
Identify employee training and development needs.
Promote employee engagement and a high-performance culture.
Monitor branch Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Encourage knowledge sharing and best practice adoption.
Create an empowering environment that promotes ownership and accountability.
Participate in recruitment and workforce planning.
Manage HR processes including: Performance reviews Leave management Employee development Talent identification Disciplinary processes (where required)

Handle escalated employee grievance matters.
Continuously develop personal leadership effectiveness.
3. Compliance and Risk Management (15%)
Ensure branch operations comply with: Absa policies Regulatory requirements Internal control standards

Maintain satisfactory audit performance.
Monitor operational controls and implement corrective actions.
Report incidents according to bank procedures.
Approve branch expenses within delegated authority.
Manage branch costs effectively within approved budgets.
Ensure proper management of dormant accounts and approvals.
Promote a strong risk and compliance culture.
4. Customer Service Management (15%)
Use customer feedback to improve products and service delivery.
Ensure branches provide knowledgeable and high-quality customer service.
Build customer-focused and motivated branch teams.
Monitor service performance scores and implement improvement plans.
Ensure all customer service points meet required standards, including: Computers Printers Cash counting machines ATMs Other branch equipment

Maintain ATM availability standards and escalate technical issues when required.
Risk and Control Responsibilities
The Branch Manager is responsible for:
Managing risks through effective control frameworks.
Understanding operational processes, risks, and controls.
Following Absa policies and procedures.
Reporting incidents and risk events promptly.
Identifying opportunities to strengthen controls.
Completing mandatory compliance training on time.
Supporting regulatory and stakeholder engagement.

Experience Requirements
Candidates should have:
Minimum5 years’ experiencein Banking / Financial Services.
At least3 years’ experience in Branch Managementwith proven performance results.
Experience managing Retail Banking and Business Banking segments.
Strong knowledge of branch operations and controls.
Experience managing customer service operations and complaints resolution.
Experience leading direct sales teams.
Experience managing large teams.
Strong knowledge of banking products, retail strategies, and structures.
Understanding of operational and credit risk policies.
Knowledge of banking regulations and industry practices.
