How to write a CV for employers in Malawi
NGOs, development projects, banks and the public service are major employers in Malawi, and they compare every CV with the advert. Clear achievements and a tidy layout matter more than design.
These are common practice, not rules. When an advert asks for something different, follow the advert.
- Length
- 1 to 2 pages.
- Order
- Most recent first, or a hybrid that leads with skills if you are just starting out.
- Personal details
- Name, Malawian mobile number, professional email and your town and district.
- Layout
- Arial, Calibri or Times New Roman at 11 to 12 point, little colour, clear headings.
- Referees
- Many employers ask for them later; "available on request" is common.
- First job
- Use teachers, lecturers or internship supervisors as references if you have no employer yet.
