Job Vacancy: Civil Officer – Construction & Infrastructure People Project Co.is recruiting on behalf of its client, a reputable renewable energy company based in Zanzibar, for a Civil Officer. Role Overview Title: Civil Officer – Construction & Infrastructure Department: Location: Zanzibar Hiring Agency: People Project Co. (on behalf of a reputable renewable energy client)Project Type: 20 MW solar installation project Deadline: 30th July 2026 Role Purpose The successful candidate will support the Civil Engineer in overseeing and monitoring civil construction activities for a 20 MW solar installation project. You will ensure that all civil works are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with approvedstandards, project specifications, and applicable health, safety, and environmental requirements. Key Requirements & Qualifications Education Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field. Professional registration with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) and/or other relevant professional engineering bodies is an added advantage. Experience Minimum of 2–4 yearsof experience in civil construction or infrastructure projects. Direct experience supervising contractors and site construction activities. Experience working on renewable energy, construction, industrial, or infrastructure projects is an added advantage. Key Competencies Proven capability in site supervision, QA/QC, engineering drawing interpretation, reporting, and HSE compliance. Deep knowledge of civil engineering principles and construction methodologies. Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and construction plans. Hands-on knowledge of concrete works, structural foundations, earthworks, drainage systems, roads, and utility infrastructure. Understanding of construction quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) processes. Familiarity with construction health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Basic knowledge of Auto CAD or similar engineering software is an added advantage. General Responsibilities Site Supervision: Assist the Civil Engineer in supervising daily civil construction activities on site. Contractor Monitoring: Monitor contractor performance to ensure compliance with approved drawings, technical specifications, and project schedules. Inspections: Inspect earthworks, excavation, foundations, concrete works, equipment bases, roads, drainage systems, fencing, and cable trenches. Quality & Standards: Ensure construction works comply with applicable engineering standards, quality requirements, and regulatory requirements. Issue Resolution: Conduct routine site inspections to identify defects, non-conformances, and construction issues, and coordinate corrective action. Material Verification: Verify that construction materials meet approved specifications before they are used. Record Keeping: Maintain daily site records, inspection reports, work progress reports, and photographic records. Progress Reporting: Monitor construction progress and promptly report delays, risks, and technical challenges to the Civil Engineer. Plan Review: Assist in reviewing contractor work plans, method statements, and inspection requests. Measurement & Verification: Support measurement and verification of completed civil works for progress reporting and payment certification. Interdisciplinary Coordination: Coordinate civil activities with electrical, mechanical, and environmental teams to ensure smooth project execution. HSE Compliance: Ensure contractors strictly comply with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements at all times. Testing & Handover: Participate in quality inspections, testing, commissioning, and project handover activities. Technical Support: Assist in resolving technical issues arising during construction and support the Civil Engineer in preparing progress reports and project documentation. Carry out any other duties assigned by the Civil Engineer or Project Manager.
