Job Summary The UG Electrical Superintendent will oversee underground electrical and mechanical systems, ensuring safety compliance, equipment reliability, maintenance effectiveness, technical governance, and continuous improvement within underground operations. The role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to coordinate engineering activities with mining production requirements. Key Responsibilities 1. Safety and Compliance Enforce compliance with electrical and mechanical safety standards, including:IEC standards.IEEE standards.Mine safety standards. IEC standards. IEEE standards. Mine safety standards. Ensure strict adherence to:LOTOTO procedures.LV/MV switching procedures. LOTOTO procedures. LV/MV switching procedures. Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions. Promote a Zero Harm safety culture within underground operations. 2. Asset Reliability and Performance Ensure reliability and availability of critical underground infrastructure, including: Ventilation systems. Pumping systems. Compressed air systems. MV/LV electrical distribution systems. Additional responsibilities: Monitor equipment performance. Implement reliability improvement plans. Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment failures and recurring defects. 3. Maintenance Execution and Planning Oversee planned and breakdown maintenance activities. Ensure maintenance quality meets OEM standards. Review and improve preventive maintenance strategies with Planning and Reliability teams. Ensure availability of critical spare parts and technical documentation. 4. Technical Governance Ensure underground electrical systems comply with approved: Single Line Diagrams (SLDs). General Arrangement (GA) drawings. Protection settings and coordination studies. Engineering standards and specifications. Responsibilities include: Approving technical changes and modifications. Driving standardization across underground assets. 5. Operational Coordination Align engineering activities with mining production requirements. Coordinate:Shutdowns.Changeovers.Major interventions. Shutdowns. Changeovers. Major interventions. Ensure operational readiness during peak load requirements and constraints. 6. Projects and Continuous Improvement Lead underground electrical and mechanical projects. Identify and implement efficiency and cost-saving initiatives. Support capital projects and integration into operations. 7. Reporting and Performance Management Develop and maintain structured reporting systems: Daily operational reports. Weekly performance reviews. Monthly KPI tracking. Key performance indicators include: Equipment availability (%). Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF). Mean Time To Repair (MTTR). Power quality impact on underground operations. Safety performance metrics. Provide consolidated engineering performance reports to the Site Electrical Superintendent. 8. Team Leadership and Development Lead and develop underground engineering teams. Build competency in:MV/HV operations.Mechanical systems. MV/HV operations. Mechanical systems. Promote accountability and performance among foremen and supervisors. Key Deliverables The successful candidate will achieve: Improved underground equipment availability. Better coordination between engineering and mining operations. Qualifications Requirements Applicants must have: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. Postgraduate qualification is an added advantage. Professional Engineering certification. Professional electrical engineering certification or license is preferred. Experience & Competencies Required Candidates should have: 10+ years’ experiencein:Electrical systems.Instrumentation.Automation.Control systems.PLC systems. Electrical systems. Instrumentation.
