Quick answer
An attachment letter asks an organisation to host you for the industrial or field attachment your course requires. State your course, year and institution, the dates and length of the placement, what you have studied that fits their work, and that your institution's introduction letter is enclosed. Address it to the human resources manager and keep it to one page.
| Country | Usual name |

The Human Resources Manager,
Eastland Power Services Ltd,
P.O. Box 30200, Nairobi.
Dear Sir or Madam,
RE: APPLICATION FOR INDUSTRIAL ATTACHMENT
I am a third-year Diploma in Electrical Engineering student at a national polytechnic and I am seeking an industrial attachment place in your maintenance department from 4 May to 31 July 2026. The attachment is a requirement of my course.
I have completed units in electrical installation, power systems and workshop safety, and I can read wiring diagrams and use a multimeter. I am keen to learn how a power company runs planned maintenance.
I have enclosed my CV, the introduction letter from my institution and my personal accident insurance cover. Thank you for considering my request. I look forward to your response.
Yours faithfully,
Kevin Mutua
In a large organisation, write to the Human Resources Manager. In a small one, write to the director or the head of the department you want to join, for example the Chief Engineer or the Matron. If your institution gave you a contact person there, name them.
In Kenya, TVET attachment guidelines and employers' attachment adverts commonly ask for an introduction letter from your institution and personal accident insurance for the placement, so mention both in your enclosures.
Subject: Follow-up on my industrial attachment application
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to follow up on my application for an industrial attachment place in your maintenance department, which I delivered on 15 March 2026. I remain very interested and can provide any further documents you need.
Thank you for your time.

State your course, year and institution, that the attachment is a course requirement, the dates you need, and what you have studied that fits the organisation. Enclose your CV and your institution's introduction letter, and keep it to one page.
Get an introduction letter from your institution, write a one-page application letter to the human resources manager or head of department, attach your CV, and deliver or email it well before your placement dates. Follow up politely after a week.
Attachment happens during your studies as a course requirement and is usually unpaid. An internship comes after or near graduation and is often a programme with an intake.
Usually your CV, the introduction letter from your institution, and, where required, personal accident insurance cover. Some organisations also ask for a copy of your student ID.
After about one week. Send a short, polite email or make a brief call, and ask whether they need anything more from you.
