How to write a CV for employers in Namibia
Public service posts are advertised in PSM circulars from the Office of the Prime Minister and applied for on form 156043, which must carry a CV. Private employers advertise on NIEIS, the labour ministry's free job portal, in newspapers and on LinkedIn. One clean CV serves both.
These are common practice, not rules. When an advert asks for something different, follow the advert.
- Length
- Two pages for most people, three at most. A Bank Windhoek recruiter's advice: less is more.
- Order
- Most recent first: a short profile, work experience, education, then skills.
- Personal details
- Your legal name, not a nickname, a working number with +264 and a professional email. Marital status is not needed on a modern CV.
- Photo
- Optional. If you add one, a clear head-and-shoulders photo only.
- School results
- Name the certificate: NSSCO (Grade 11) and NSSCAS (Grade 12, first written in 2021). Older CVs show NSSCO and NSSCH.
- Foreign qualifications
- For public service posts, a qualification from outside Namibia must be evaluated by the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA).
- File
- PDF. Attach copies of certificates when the advert asks; government posts always ask for certified copies.
