The story so far

Alexander Phillip grew up in Mwanza on the shores of Lake Victoria, the kind of town where everyone knows that a steady job changes a whole family. That idea stayed with him. After finishing school he moved to Dar es Salaam and studied Human Resources at the University of Dar es Salaam, where he first became fascinated by a question he still asks today: why do two people with the same skills get such different results when they apply for the same job?

He went on to study and work in the United Kingdom, where he spent several years inside busy recruitment teams reviewing thousands of CVs and sitting on the other side of the interview table. That experience taught him something most job seekers never get to see: how quickly a recruiter decides, and how often a strong candidate is passed over simply because their CV did not tell the story clearly.

Back home, Alexander built his career across Tanzania and Kenya, holding roles from HR officer to recruitment lead and head of talent in banking, telecoms, and the development sector. He has hired for everything from entry-level branch staff to senior managers, and he has mentored hundreds of young people through their first job search.

Today he writes for CV Chap Chap because he believes good advice should not be locked behind expensive consultants. Every article he publishes here comes from real hiring rooms, not theory. He writes the way he coaches: plain language, honest feedback, and practical steps you can use the same day.

When he is not writing, Alexander runs CV clinics for graduates and speaks at career fairs in Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, and Nairobi. He still reads every CV that lands in front of him with the same question from his university days, and he wants yours to answer it before the recruiter even has to ask.
