Reframe What Counts as Experience
Experience is anything that shows you can do the work. A three-month field attachment, a church fundraising committee, a university project, or even managing a family shop all count if you connect them to the role.

Name the role, say where you saw it, and mention your strongest relevant credential. This is usually your degree or diploma.

I am applying for the Graduate Trainee position advertised on your website. I recently completed a Bachelor of Business Administration at Mzumbe University, where I specialised in accounting and graduated with upper second-class honours.
Middle Paragraph
Choose one experience and explain what you did, what skill you used, and what result you achieved. Use the STAR method.
For example
During my final-year project, my team was asked to prepare a business plan for a local poultry farm (Situation). I was responsible for financial projections and market research (Task). I interviewed five farmers, analysed feed costs, and built a cash-flow forecast in Excel (Action). Our plan received the highest mark in the class (Result).
Closing Paragraph
Express enthusiasm, restate your value, and ask for the next step. Do not say "although I have no experience."
For example
I am eager to bring my analytical skills and willingness to learn to your graduate programme. Thank you for considering my application. I am available for an interview at your convenience.
Phrases to Avoid
Phrases that weaken your letter
- "Although I have no experience..." This focuses the reader on what you lack.
- "I am a fast learner." Show it with an example instead.
- "Please give me a chance." Sound confident, not desperate.
- "I will do any job." Employers want focus, not desperation.

How to Describe Part-Time and Casual Work
Many students in Tanzania work part-time in shops, restaurants, or as tutors. This experience is valuable if you describe it correctly.
