Claude resume builder
Claude resume builder: build your resume in Claude
By Alexander Phillip · Career Coach and Recruitment Expert · Updated November 2026
Quick answer
Claude has no resume builder built in, but you can turn it into one in two steps: add the free CV Chap Chap connector, which gives Claude tools to check your resume and open it in a real template, and install the CV Chap Chap resume skill, which teaches Claude the US resume rules. Claude then interviews you, writes from your real details, checks the result and hands you a link to a one-page resume you can edit and download.
- Free connector, no account
- Open-source resume skill
- Never invents your facts
Connector, skill or prompts: what each adds to Claude
| What it is | What it adds | |
|---|---|---|
| CV Chap Chap connector | Tools Claude can call, from https://www.cvchapchap.com/mcp | A resume check with the builder's rules, template suggestions, and a link that opens your resume in a real design |
| CV Chap Chap resume skill | Instructions Claude loads for resume work (SKILL.md, open source) | The interview order, the US resume rules (one page, US Letter, no photo) and the rule never to invent facts |
| Prompts | Text you paste into any chat | Better wording for one job at a time; nothing is checked or designed |
How to add CV Chap Chap to Claude
- Open CV Chap Chap in Claude's connector directory (claude.ai/directory/connectors/cv-chap-chap) and add it. No sign-in or account is needed. Or open Settings, then Connectors, add a custom connector and paste https://www.cvchapchap.com/mcp.
- For the skill: download the cv-chap-chap-resume-skill repository from GitHub, zip its cv-chap-chap folder, and upload it in Claude under Settings, then Capabilities, then Skills (code execution must be on).
- In Claude Code, copy the cv-chap-chap folder into ~/.claude/skills and add the connector with: claude mcp add --transport http cv-chap-chap https://www.cvchapchap.com/mcp
- Start a new chat and say what you need, such as "Help me write a resume for a registered nurse job in Ohio."
What building a resume in Claude looks like
Claude asks one topic at a time: where you are applying, your jobs with dates and duties, education, licenses and skills. With the skill loaded it writes to the US rules: a summary without I or me, bullet points that start with a verb, one page, no photo, no references. It suggests wording from what you said and asks you to confirm it; it does not invent numbers or employers.
When the draft is ready, Claude runs the CV Chap Chap check, which flags a job with no dates, a missing summary or thin bullet points, and fixes them with you. It can show templates that suit the job, and when you want to see the result it saves a private draft and gives you a link that opens your resume in the CV Chap Chap builder on US Letter.
What Claude cannot do on its own
Claude writes well, but on its own it cannot see a resume design, keep dates aligned on the right, check the page breaks at one page of US Letter, or give you a clean PDF that applicant tracking systems read in order. Copying chat text into Word leaves that work to you.
That is the gap the connector closes: the words come from the conversation, and the layout, the checks and the PDF come from a resume builder. Building, editing and previewing are free; you pay once only to download the finished PDF and Word file, with no subscription.
Things to ask Claude
- "Help me write a one-page resume for a customer service job. Ask me questions first."
- "Here is my old resume. Rewrite it for this job posting, using only what is true:" then paste both
- "Check my resume and tell me what to fix."
- "Show me simple resume templates with no photo."
- "Open my resume in CV Chap Chap."
Your details stay yours
Checks and template searches are answered and not stored. When you ask Claude to open your resume in CV Chap Chap, the resume it sends is saved as a private draft behind a link that works for 30 days. We never receive your Claude conversation or account. The privacy policy's connector section has the details.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a Claude resume builder?
Claude has no resume builder built in. Adding the free CV Chap Chap connector turns it into one: Claude writes the resume with you, checks it with real rules and opens it in a one-page template you can edit and download.
What is the Claude resume skill?
The CV Chap Chap resume skill is an open-source SKILL.md file that teaches Claude how to interview you and the US resume rules. It changes how Claude writes; the connector adds the tools that check and design the resume.
Is the CV Chap Chap connector free?
Yes. The connector and the skill are free and need no account. Building, editing and previewing your resume are free too; downloading the finished PDF is a one-time payment, no subscription.
Can Claude make a resume PDF?
Claude can produce simple documents on some plans, but not a tested resume design. With the connector, Claude opens your resume in CV Chap Chap, where you preview it on US Letter and download a clean PDF and Word file.
Will Claude make things up on my resume?
The skill tells Claude to use only the facts you give it, and the resume check points out gaps instead of filling them. Read every line before you send it: an interviewer can ask about any of them.
Does CV Chap Chap see my Claude chats?
No. Claude sends only what a tool needs, such as the resume to check. CV Chap Chap never receives your conversation history or your Claude account.
Prefer a resume builder that asks the questions?
The CV Chap Chap AI CV Agent works like a chat in your browser and builds the resume as you answer. Preview it free; pay once to download.
